Vancouver Earthquake! I didn't feel or hear anything. (Which is normal for me in almost all circumstances.) So, I have to admit I'm a bit jealous that I had nothing to tell News 1130, like these folks did: "My bed shook" - Greg, Port Angeles "It rattled windows" - Linda, Pitt Meadows "A big rumble" - Chuck, Sydney And, let me add: "I SLEPT LIKE A LOG" - Graham Andrew Johnson, Maple Ridge "We will rebuild" Memes are abounding on social media already. The City of Maple Ridge posted one on Twitter last night-- although I'm not sure whether they really have a sense of humour or their account got hacked. If it's legitimate, someone's sure to say that it's making light of what might have been a serious situation. Yes, I know we all should be prepared for the "big one," that CBC says could kill 10,000. (We need CNN in Canada-- they'd up that number to a million.) You know, I just might watch that earthquake preparedness video, but in the meantime, I'm having too much fun on social media. Also, it's Bacon Day. via Facebook

@AM730Traffic #CityofNewWest New "recycling" program? A city recycling truck shedding its load along the #TransCanada East Bound through Coquitlam was just one of the many interesting things I observed in traffic today. But this high-speed "paper trail" is just one of the some of the stuff I hear about on the traffic station. Regularly making obstacles for the Greater Vancouver commute: Washers, dryers, iron boards, dead raccoons Pretty much like the things you'd find in a local laundromat. Driving in Vancouver. A thrill a minute. (Don't tell your friends in other parts of the world that we have these troubles in paradise.) via Facebook

Lots of reasons being floated for "fluctuating" (aka rising) gas prices. Secrets of the oil tricksters revealed: It's all done by oil company psychologists who raise the prices suddenly and dramatically then lower them by one cent per litre to make us think we're getting a break. Then they make us bark like dogs and baaaa like sheep while we pump our gas. via Facebook

I just heard a radio weather forecast that sounded so poetic. "We could get brushed by a morning shower..." It's either poetry or something that was composed in the bathroom early i n the morning over a tube of toothpaste. via Facebook

#JustinTrudeau, get ready for the deafening roar of power scooters and a few old folks on Harleys descending on Parliament Hill. Maybe my hearing is failing along with my eyesight but when I listened to the swearing in of cabinet minsters on CBC Radio today I didn't hear a minister responsible for seniors, pensions or power scooters being sworn in. #RagingGrannies where are you? via Facebook

In an equality measure, #JustinTrudeau has revealed that he will be alternating between date and time answers to media questions: "Because it's 2015" and "Because it's 3:15." When asked for specifics, he replied, "It's November 4, 2015 at 3:15 pm." via Facebook

New federal regulations will require a 30% "truth content" for Canadian news outlets. It will be a stretch to fill the gap. The current truth content is about 10%. Newspapers and broadcast media are scratching their heads about how to accomodate the new rules. The current method of writing a catchy headline for newspaper, or clever wordplay for broadcast media and then creating a story to fit it will likely have to be scrapped. The new rules do not apply to social media. via Facebook

New dream job: Mainland Chinese "homemaker." An estimated 70% of detached #Vancouver west side sold homes are bought by Mainland China buyers. That's the not-so-startling news on the radio today. The surprise? "Homemakers" and "students" (with no income in Canada) make up a large portion of the group snapping up the multi-million-- and often paying cash. via Facebook

#SleepDisorders Don't sleep through this! This morning on CBC Radio #Vancouver's Early Edition, Rick Cluff and a hopefully wide-awake guest will talk about sleep disorders. I'll probably miss this one because I won't be in the car until later, and "car" and "radio" always go together in my life. (Can't have one without the other.) Besides, I have no trouble sleeping. Except in bed. via Facebook

Hug a Swedish Researcher today. A University of Gothenburg study concludes that "Drinking two pints of #beer a week could help cut the risk of heart attacks in women by up to a third. It's no small study. The researcher tracked beer consumption over a 50-year period. A 50-year beer study. Pick me! I want to die giving my life to research. via Facebook

My brainwaves lately seem to have quite a bit of caffeine content. I've noticed that secret for ordering cheap coffee at Starbucks is to order a "short" size, which is not listed on the menu, of course. It is larger than Tim Horton's "small" which is equivalent to a thimble full. Awhile back, I noticed Starbucks started serving "shorts" in larger cup. They just put in less coffee. Perhaps it was a way of saying, "You're so cheap we're only going to fill part of the cup." The humiliation attempt apparently failed to achieve the desired result, more recently, Starbucks has been offering the short cups again but the sleeves only fit the larger size cups. This is their way of making us "shorties" feel BOTH cheap and awkward. Maybe it's time to start acting like a "real" Canadian and lining up at Tim Horton's? via Facebook
